Welcome to the house I grew up in :) I came across film slides that Grandpa made, and finally figured out how to use the slide scanner on my printer so you can see them too!
When my grandparents owned it and raised my mom in it, this is how it looked. They had excellent taste in quality decor, and were very interested in mid-century-modern design.
Grandpa designed for Chrysler and enjoyed photography. Grandma was wife & mom, wrote poetry and was active in the local community.
Their retirement home in Arizona was kept in the same style as this house in Michigan once they moved, and spring break visits (month-long = homeschool perk, school goes where you go) with Grandpa & Grandma in the southwest were always wonderful. Staying in their home was like looking back in time to the 1950s. A trip to the museum once resulted in seeing similar furniture on display! Adults seem to age when that happens but kids swell with pride "Look! We sat on those chairs at breakfast!"
They didn't have excess 'stuff'. Just what they needed to live, create, and make people feel at home, which is an inspiration to me. What do I really need? Really? The less I have, the easier it is to take care of and keep tabs on :)
Someday I'd like to have a home like theirs. A tidy, cozy place for people to feel like themselves, be inspired, and have happy memories.
