I have never been more grateful for easy meal options...
A few months ago, my nieces started asking for "The Gruffalo" story on a regular basis, (we read to them on video chat pretty often) and we came up with the idea for a 'Gruffalo Lunch' to enjoy on their next visit.
We discussed allll the details for the Gruffalo's favorite foods: eggs for scrambled snake, BBQ chicken for roasted fox, ice cream with sprinkles for owl ice cream, and for the mouse's favorite snack: berry cobbler for Gruffalo crumble. The main ingredients were going to be prepped in advance so the nieces could help put it all together.
Fast forward to last week. I was on 'niece duty' for the afternoon, and unfortunately, my back was flaring up that day and made cooking out of the question :-(
Enter boxed macaroni with sprouts, for the scrambled snake (because it slides down your throat), a bag of sweet potato chips for roasted fox (because they're orange), and pre-made blackberry cobbler for Gruffalo crumble.
The girlies entered into the adjusted plan and we all had fun (chocolate owl-ice cream with sprinkles mayyyy have been the highlight).
"My favorite food!" the gruffalo said.
"You'll taste good on a slice of bread!"
"Good?" said the mouse. "Don't call me good!
I'm the scariest creature in this deep dark wood.
Just walk behind me and soon you'll see, everyone is afraid of me."
"Oh, sure!" said the gruffalo, bursting with laughter.
"You lead the way and I'll follow after."
The mouse said, "Gruffalo, now you see, everyone is afraid of me!
But now my tummy is starting to rumble,
and my favorite food is....gruffalo crumble!"
"Gruffalo crumble!" the gruffalo said,
and quick as the wind, he turned and fled.
All was quiet in the deep, dark wood.
The mouse found a nut and the nut was good.
